What is your view and experiences on how plant based eating and dietary requirements are influencing the foodservice industry?
I think it is great how more and more people are becoming aware of what they eat, where it comes from, how healthy it is and why it is good for you. We at BOAW are huge believers of a balanced diet – eating all food groups, some in moderation of course! Obviously, plant based foods should make up the majority of the diet. Offering people all types of foods (including chips, burgers and the odd sweet treat, as well as tofu, Chicken, delicious salads and proper bread) means people can make better choices about what they eat.
In your opinion, what global food trends will influence NZ foodservice in the next 12 months?
Hopefully more of the direction it is heading – great, healthy, affordable, delicious food in smart casual environments. The consumer will be become more and more knowledgeable about food and what they are eating. And of course, chicken and tofu are the next taco and burger!
